When Yuka’s quiet, weird-kid nature turned out to be the shamanic calling, his father did what any self-respecting loyalist would do and sent him away to a boarding school he knew would suppress the calling by any means necessary. Unfortunately for Yuka, this only further singled him out as the weird kid. Originally just the quiet one, now he was the kid with the cut hair who sat in the corner because surely there must be something wrong with him if he wasn’t even allowed to go outside. After years of growing up with such treatment, the anger, fear, and exhaustion manifested itself into a black raven that beckoned Yuka to take the chance of an open window. Now having to live with how he and his raven spirit put an end to those who were chasing him, Yuka is trying desperately to find a safe corner to slink back into while authorities hunt for him, locals cheer for him, and his guiding spirit pushes him to take rightful revenge.

Trying to leave behind the violent trail urged on by his raven spirit, Yuka fights his way to the sacred spring in hopes he could free himself from it. Instead, he finds the spring alive with the spirit-gods offering him the role of the next vodjmir. Feeling quite undeserving of the role due to his past, Yuka hesitantly accepts, afraid of letting everyone down but relieved that the raven was replaced with the hawk spirit Vonyova. With Vonyova reassuring him that he was chosen for a reason, Yuka decides to go to the tsaritsa with a new plan of diplomatic discussion. Now more confident that his weird nature was just being soft-spoken and distracted by things only he could see, Yuka is only slightly freaking out at the thought of having to fill the empty space left by Ksunya’s death.
